What is a hotel narrowboat holiday?
A hotelboat holiday is great for couples, singles, stressed executives & minions, seniors, groups; just about anyone who wants to relax and be pampered in pleasant surroundings. It's a perfect antidote to busy jobs and today's frantic pace of life. Your company on a hotelboat holiday may be pleasant like-minded fellow passengers, or you could have the hotelboat and crew to yourself, or shared with your friends and family.
Accommodation aboard Snipe and Taurus
Our traditional hotelboats work as a 'pair', offering compact but cosy cabins for up to 9 guests per week, with a mix of single, twin and double accommodation. Larger rooms have en-suite facilities, others have shared showers and toilets. All have hot and cold running water and flush toilets. They are fully centrally heated, have mains power, and offer a covered seating area at the bows where guests can watch the world slip by, each has there own skipper and crew onboard who know the rivers & canals, their culture, heritage and environment, intimately.
The Cruising Day
A strict timetable is impractical - We start each morning with a short chat about the highlights of the day over breakfast. As we travel at a serene speed of three miles per hour, the choice is yours to walk alongside the towpath, venture off into the surrounding countryside, or to one of the many towns and villages, we can pack you a picnic, or you can rejoin the boats further on for lunch. You may wish to assist the crew with the locks, take time to observe the passing wildlife, or just indulge in an afternoon nap. There are freshly baked cakes or biscuits and a pot of tea to enjoy mid-afternoon then towards the evening we settle at our mooring.
A pre-dinner drink in the lounge is always popular, as the events of the day are discussed, before Corinne, Neil and crew serve your four course evening meal - a leisurely affair where conversation flows easily around our large family table. Coffee is served in the lounge, where you may choose a book from our library or perhaps share a game. At night, after a day in the open air and sunshine, the sound of water gurgling over a lock weir and the drowsy sounds of the countryside provide a restful backdrop to sleep.
